We use energy around our house from the time we get up till we go to bed. Our desire for energy seems relentless but do we use our energy efficiently?

Energy is a really valuable resource to all of us. Yet with the cost of energy rapidly going up we understand how important it is to save energy wherever we can.

Our home offers us shelter and safeguards us from all kinds of weather conditions. One of the main energy uses we have is to heat our homes therefore saving energy is a lot about heating management.

Heat is transferred from one material to another in three different ways – conduction, convection and radiation. When we heat our house up the warm air is then lost as it is conducted and radiated out through our walls. The main way of reducing heat loss is through insulation. Today’s standards for construction where I live are R20 for walls and R40 for ceilings. Now it is almost impossible to take an old home and make it as energy efficient as a modern home but that doesn’t mean we can do nothing. So check your insulation and upgrade it wherever possible.

By using energy efficient lighting you can reduce your usage of high costing electricity both by the amount you use as well as the ever increasing expense of using it. Home lighting is certainly an area where you can make a big difference as far as energy conservation goes.

Solar power is something you might have been thinking about as a way to help you save home energy. You may have even talked to some experts and got a few of estimates. Solar energy can also be utilized to subsidize your home’s electricity or can even get you off the electrical grid all together.

Of course, new electrical power technologies will take some time to be perfect. But there are more home owner incentives than at any time in the past when it comes to updating your residence to modern technologies.

There are many home energy saving products on the market today that can assist you in conserving energy that will reduce your usage of electric power and the costs of using it.

Being Eco-friendly today is about taking action on a personal level to purchase things that are manufactured specifically to reduce our impact on our planet. Thinking Green stresses the idea of “thinking globally, acting locally”.

Start thinking green and help save our planet.
